You are an Alpha WAHM and you love being the boss and being there for your children. You’re dreaming of success on your terms, and it’s up to you to decide whether that means money in the bank, making a difference in the world, passing on your values and ideals to the next generation, or all of these things. Sounds great, doesn’t it?
But what if you’re stuck in a rut and there is little money in the bank, world peace hardly seems possible when your family can’t even get along, and your offspring have minds and morals of their own?
You need some Alpha Time.
As the name implies, Alpha Time is the time you schedule first every single day. Your focus is on your priorities. You keep this appointment with yourself unless you are giving birth, accepting the Nobel peace prize, or chairing an economic world summit (and maybe a few other noteworthy extenuating circumstances). This time of tending to priorities has other names—me-time, prime time, business-building time—but the purpose is always the same.
Use this time—from half an hour to a couple of hours—each day to do what matters most. Ignore interruptions unless you actually see blood or broken bones, Resist the temptation to check your e-mail, tweet, make phone calls, procrastinate, bake, or ____ (insert your own favorite distractions here). Focus on your chosen priorities. Schedule activities that will grow your business. Complete them in your Alpha Time. You might also nurture yourself with quiet time, exercise, or preparing healthy food.
By taking care of yourself, you are taking care of your business, too.
Make Alpha Time a habit and make it first on your to-do list. Whether you have just minutes a day or several hours, you will quickly notice the cumulative effect of putting first things first. You’ll be more productive, too, because you focus first on what matters most.
