WAHM Productivity Tip: If They Get to Watch TV, You Get to Make Money

We all know the pitfalls of too much television for our little ones. Researchers have pretty much proven that it all but rots the brain, educational viewing included. So let’s not kid ourselves into thinking that TV is making our wee ones smarter because it’s just not.

But when used with a little forethough and parental wisdom, TV can be okay in short bursts. And make no mistake, I’m the TV Nazi in my house and monitor how much my kids watch very closely. i.e. the house rule is now that my 2 boys must clock at least 30 to 60 minutes of old fashioned play (remember that?) before they can shut off the brain and watch PBS Kids or Treehouse in the morning. And then it only goes on for about an hour (okay, maybe a little more on those days when I’d rather fling myself in front of a moving bus than play Lego. Sue me.).

What I want you, the Alpha WAHM to do, next time you mindlessly plop your kids in front of the boob tube is this:

Ignore the Mount Everest sized pile of clean laundry that needs folding and get some freakin’ work done! Honestly, if the clothes are already clean anyway, what’s more important? Folding everyone’s tighty-whities into pretty little squares? OR putting more bucks in the bank?

Television may be the downfall of society, but if used strategically, it will help you get a little more work done and ignore that laundry pile for one more day.

And when TV is not an option, for the love of God, make them PLAY.
