This Alpha WAHM Screwed Up Heeyuge (Beta Goes Hand in Hand With Being Alpha)

in WAHM Coffee Break

Today was the International Virtual Assistants Association’s (IVAA) annual Online Summit. I was honored to have been invited to present a webinar for their guests. In fact, I was more than honored, I was JAZZED. Why? Because my webinar, The Alpha Factor, was to be a “pre-launch” of my upcoming book, the Alpha WAHM Blueprint.

But alas, it was not to be. Watch the video below to see my (creative? lame? bizarre?) attempt to atone for what I call a “Beta Moment” in my professional life. (It’s been a beta week actually.)

(UN)NECESSARY DISCLAIMERS:

  • I’m sharing this because I think it’s worth sharing, not to impress anyone with my stellar video production skills. I didn’t script this or rehearse in advance. In fact, it’s my first video ever. The lighting is crap and I don’t follow many of the usual “rules” about video blogging or whatever. So please don’t bug me about how I could have produced a more professional looking, polished video. This is in the RAW and that was purely intentional.
  •  I made two boo-boos in the video regarding information about my book:
    • The Alpha WAHM Blueprint CAN be purchased by “the public” as of today. I just hadn’t planned on officially launching until the 3rd or 4th week of November. So orders placed between now and the end of November are considered “pre-orders.”
    • The URL is AlphaWAHMBook.com, NOT “AlfaWAHMBook.com!” Unbelievable.
  • The discount offer is only for IVAA peeps who purchased tickets to the summit. It’s a small token of my appreciation for their time and interest in my webinar. If you’re ticked that I’m not offering the same discount to everyone, what can I say? $19.95 for a solid business-building resource is already a decent price in my mind. Maybe someday I’ll extend the offer to more people. But for now, the price is the price, kay?

On with the show then.

If you’re feeling brave, I encourage you to share a recent “Beta Moment” of your own. C’mon …  it’ll make me feel better!

I think you were too hard on yourself Karri! We all make mistakes….heck, that is how we better ourselves by making mistakes…don’t sweat it ;) The mere fact that you are publicly apologizing by video (your first video ever which is not an easy feat to pull together) shows your integrity here. And hey…Thanks for the discount for the IVAA members, how generous of you. I’ve read the book, it’s excellent for those who have not picked it up yet. Take care Karri and hope to see you soon….Makeup looked great btw ;)

Karri,
I am one of the committee members for IVAA Online Summit. Thank you for the video. Things happen, and we all understand. I look forward to seeing you in Phoenix in April.

How brave of you to apologise in such a way! I teach Admin. Office at a california college and our recent topic of discussion was time zones – and to communicate effectively considering timezones. I like to give real life examples in my classes, offering many of my own real life Beta Moments. Note, we all make mistakes and the trick is to dust yourself off, learn from them and teach others…… what a star! Sorry I missed your presentation….

@Tawnya – Thanks for the kudos on the book (and the makeup!).

@Michelle – I appreciate your understanding a great deal. And it will be amazing to finally see everyone in AZ in 2010. At the risk of jinxing it, I promise I won’t get my times mixed up ;)

@Toni – I don’t know if it was brave or an extension of what turned out to be a plain *crazy* week! Feel free to use me as an “example” in your teaching :)

Kerri, That took guts and I really admire you for doing it. And I’m willing to bet that you’re not the first speaker that this has happened to. Knock ‘em dead in Pheonix!
(Keeping time zones straight is one of my challenges too!)

Hey, Karri, nice video! I planned to attend the IVAA On-line Summit and had to go out of town mid-day. When we got the list of recordings and yours was not there, I said to myself “time zone” problem. Having had family and close friends in California, Texas, Alabama, Massachusetts and Michigan at the same time, I just said to them “Call me anytime on Sunday” and any other day before 9:00 p.m. “your time”. That helped. So, don’t worry about the mistake. As one former boss used to say, “If no one died, don’t sweat it.” Looking forward to more of your videos!

Wow,Karri! Impressive! Just had a chance to visit your video site and I’m not an Alpha Mom — just a retired Alpha Grandmother who never seems to have enough time!!

Wishing you all the success you deserve in Phoenix!!
